Uranium retention on iron oxyhydroxides in post-mining environmental conditions

چکیده
Investigating uranium migration mechanisms related to the weathering of waste rocks is essential for developing strategies that can address potential environmental issues caused by mining. This work based on samples containing 2 L ferrihydrite, lepidocrocite and goethite collected in technosols from granitic rock piles, mine drainage conduits waters. The results show important role iron oxyhydroxide U immobilization re-concentration. EXAFS spectroscopy combined with mineralogical geochemical studies (Scanning electronic microscopy, Wavelength-dispersive X-ray microprobe, inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry/mass spectrometry diffraction) allowed identification uranyl ternary surface complexes at ferrihydrite were either composed phosphate groups or organic matter. Moreover, also identified as a secondary trap immobilization. U(VI) known be mobile oxidizing conditions. study highlights control mobility various oxyhydroxides supergene

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Uranium mining in Australia: Environmental impact, radiation releases and rehabilitation
The mining and export of uranium and the impacts (and risks) of the nuclear industry have long been a contentious issue in Australia. The ongoing debate primarily relates to the established and potential dangers of ionizing radiation released to the environment from nuclear facilities, such as uranium mines or research reactors. By 2002, three uranium milling projects are operating with a furth...

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...
Environmental health risk from past uranium mining and milling activities
In the last few years several European countries undertook closure and environmental remediation of old uranium mining sites. This is the case for Portugal. Due to concerns about public health, environmental radioactivity was recently investigated in a number of counties in the Centre-North of Portugal where the extraction and chemical treatment of uranium ore was carried out, as well as in ref...
متن کاملHealth in Uranium Mining
Safety in mining radioactive ores, and in milling and treating them, has been a serious preoccupation for some thirty years. Much earlier than this, however, a high incidence of lung cancer had been reported among the miners of the Erzgebirge mountains in the German-Czechoslovak border region (places familiar under the names of Schneeberg and St. Joachims thai). Investigations into deaths from ...
